U13 Reds Complete A Clean Sweep

The U13 Reds capped off an unbelievable season when they added the NFA Shiremoor Press U13 County Cup to their haul of trophies, with a 3-0 victory over Heaton Hawks in tonights final held at Whitley Park.

Played in front of a large crowd the Reds had much the better of the play in the first half forcing the Heaton goalkeeper to make a couple smart saves to keep the scores level. Heaton started the second half the brighter team and had the games first real chance when clever play at the edge of the Reds box saw a Heaton midfielder burst through but his shot which seemed destined for the bottom corner was stopped with an outstanding save from Taylor Chapman in the Reds goal. The first goal in this game was always going to be crucial and it was the Reds who got it on 59 mins when Michael Johnstone picked the ball up down the left and drove into the Heaton box before slipping the ball to Nathan Kidd who finished from close range. The Reds then made it 2-0 when the same two players combined on the edge of the box, with some clever footwork from Nathan Kidd which released Micheal Johnstone who slotted the ball home under the advancing Heaton goalkeeper. The Reds finished the game strongly and capped off a great night with a third goal when a perfectly flighted William Dowling free-kick found the head of Michael Johnstone who planted the ball into the top corner of the net.

U13 Reds Win The League

The fantastic season enjoyed by the U13 Reds continued today when they clinched the Pinpoint Recruitment Junior Football League U13 Premiership title. Their 5-0 home win over Newcastle City means that with one league game still to play they cannot be overhauled at the top.

U14s Win The Divisional Cup

Our U14s made it a clean sweep across the age groups for our teams in the Divisional Cup, when they emerged victorious in  the North East Youth Division U14 Divisional Cup final tonight, after beating our neighbours Cramlington Town Blues 2-0.

U13 Reds Make It A Double

Our U13 Reds have won their second trophy of the season when they won the Pinpoint Recruitment Junior Football League U13 League Cup tonight beating Stakeford Juniors 4-2 in the final played at McKendrick Villas, Newcastle.

The Reds started the game very strongly and were three up inside 15 minutes with goals from Dan Waldon, Ethan Smith and Michael Johnstone. Stakeford got back into the game through a penalty, and then made it 3-2 five minutes into the second half. The next goal in the game was always going to be definitive and it was the Reds who got it as Stakeford pushed on in search for the equaliser, Michael Johnstone broke down the left and squared the ball to Nathan Kidd who calmly slotted home.

U17s Win Divisional Cup

Our U17s have won the North East Youth Division U17 Divisional Cup game, beating Stakeford Juniors on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra time at Croft Park, Blyth.

In a game of few chances it was Stakeford who took the lead with 7 minutes remaining when a well delivered free-kick from the right hand side evaded the Juniors defence leaving the on rushing Stakeford forward the opportunity to finish from close range. Juniors equalised in the dying seconds of normal time after the Stakeford keeper could only deflect a firmly struck Matthew Brooks free kick into the path of Tom Hizzett who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Extra time could not separate the teams so it was down to a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Matthew Brooks, Connor Terry & Ciaran Hanna all successfully converted their kicks whilst Finn Hodgson performed heroics in the Juniors goal saving three of the four Stakeford kicks to bring the Cup back to Ann Welfare!

U13 Reds Edge Out The Whites

It was Juniors verses Juniors, Reds against Whites in the final of the U13 North East Youth Division Divisional Cup Final played at Blyth Town FC in what could only be described as “changeable” weather conditions. In a tight encounter it was the Whites who came the closest to scoring in normal time when Cameron Smith stooped to crash a header against the bar. Whilst the Reds dominated play and had a number of good opportunities, the resolute Whites defence stood firm throughout. Just as the game seemed destined for a shootout the referee, deemed that Ethan Smith had been fouled in the box and awarded a penalty. Displaying nerves of steel Will Dowling calmly slotted the ball past the despairing dive of Jack Wakelam in the Whites goal. The dying minutes of the game saw the Reds add a second through Michael Johnstone after he closed down a defensive clearance and poked the ball home at the near post to make the final score 2-0 to the Reds.
