U13 Reds Make It A Double

Our U13 Reds have won their second trophy of the season when they won the Pinpoint Recruitment Junior Football League U13 League Cup tonight beating Stakeford Juniors 4-2 in the final played at McKendrick Villas, Newcastle.

The Reds started the game very strongly and were three up inside 15 minutes with goals from Dan Waldon, Ethan Smith and Michael Johnstone. Stakeford got back into the game through a penalty, and then made it 3-2 five minutes into the second half. The next goal in the game was always going to be definitive and it was the Reds who got it as Stakeford pushed on in search for the equaliser, Michael Johnstone broke down the left and squared the ball to Nathan Kidd who calmly slotted home.

U17s Win Divisional Cup

Our U17s have won the North East Youth Division U17 Divisional Cup game, beating Stakeford Juniors on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra time at Croft Park, Blyth.

In a game of few chances it was Stakeford who took the lead with 7 minutes remaining when a well delivered free-kick from the right hand side evaded the Juniors defence leaving the on rushing Stakeford forward the opportunity to finish from close range. Juniors equalised in the dying seconds of normal time after the Stakeford keeper could only deflect a firmly struck Matthew Brooks free kick into the path of Tom Hizzett who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Extra time could not separate the teams so it was down to a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Matthew Brooks, Connor Terry & Ciaran Hanna all successfully converted their kicks whilst Finn Hodgson performed heroics in the Juniors goal saving three of the four Stakeford kicks to bring the Cup back to Ann Welfare!
