From Ann Welfare to Anfield
Macaulay Gillesphey lived the dreams last night of every young lad at Cramlington Juniors as he made his professional football debut for Carlisle United at Anfield in the 73rd minute of their Capital One Cup tie against Liverpool.
The left-footed centre-back from Ashington was regarded as a late developer having not joining the NUFC Academy set up until he was 15. Macaulay has been a regular in the NUFC reserves for the last three seasons but is currently on loan to Carlisle United until the 11th October.
Everybody connected with Cramlington Juniors is absolutely delighted for him. His former U15 coach Michael Moore tweeted that “#proud to see @gillesphey make his senior debut tonight for @officialcufc. Was a pleasure to of coached him at u15s @CramlingtonJnrs”
